Happy Father's Day

Just a quick note on Father's Day.

The German father's day was about a month ago and is only called Father's Day in what used to be West Germany. In East Germany, it is called Men's day and is the day when apparently men are allowed to go out drinking the entire night and don't have to come home or work the next day. Ironically, they still on Mother's day, which is the same day as it is in the US, but as far as I know, it is no open license for women to get wasted.

I like the West's version of Father's Day better and so today, like every other, I am celebrating my father, Jack Cannon, and how fantastic of a father, husband, friend, and role model he is. McLean and I could not be any luckier with our choice of all the daddies in the rosebushes and trees.

It doesn't take days like this to be aware of how lucky I am, but it's nice to take a moment here to recognize how great my parents are. The thoughtfulness and love with which they have raised my brother and me is truly beautiful and I am glad to be able to call them my parents and my friends. Good people.

Another person who I would like to acknowledge on this day of Father is my Ersatzvater in Seattle, Fr. Cobb. The grace and intentionality with which he supports the Sullivan Scholars supplements and reenforces the values and guidance of our parents and we are all thankful and lucky to have him.

My best to all parents and future parents out there. You are all loved and cherished in the hearts of your children and community.
